About Marla & Iku
Animals are an important part of our lives, and we would love to share that care and attention with your loved ones.
We are a lesbian couple in our 30s who enjoy an active lifestyle and spending time outdoors with animals. We both grew up surrounded by animals and have opened our homes to rescued cats and dogs throughout our lives. We have experience caring for animals of all ages and needs, including seniors, puppies and kittens, animals requiring medication or medical support, and those who are anxious, fearful, or adjusting to new environments. We are comfortable with administering medications, IV and offering a special care to those who need.
Listening, communication, patience, and empathy are at the heart of how we care for animals. We are currently studying animal communication and learning to become qualified veterinary assistants as part of our long-term dream of creating a rescue sanctuary. We believe that every animal is an individual with their own personality, needs, and preferences. Animals always teach us how to be present, curious, and authentic, and we are here to meet them with kindness, respect, and understanding.
We are fortunate to live in a peaceful three-room apartment with a terrace in Vålerenga. Our home is within walking distance of both a park and beautiful forest trails along the river. We have a dedicated guest room for visiting animals, allowing them to settle in at their own pace and gradually explore the rest of the home when they feel comfortable. This setup is very helpful for shy or anxious pets who may benefit from a quiet space of their own and move to the rest of the house at their own pace. We are also lucky to have a small house in a neighbouring kolonihagen, where we can rest and cool surrounded by nature.
Our daily routine is well suited to providing attentive care. We usually start our day around 6:00 a.m. with a minimum 40-minute morning walk. We both work flexibly, either from home or from a café located just three minutes away, and one of us is always at home with the animals. Pets are therefore never left alone for extended periods.
For dogs, we provide at least three walks per day. In addition to the morning walk, we always take a longer afternoon walk lasting two or three hours in the forest, giving dogs plenty of opportunities to explore, sniff, play, and regulate naturally. Our evening walk is typically at least one hour long, adjusted to each dog's energy level and needs. We always prioritise safety, attentive presence, and allowing dogs to move at their own pace.
As we are spending our summer in Oslo and have flexible schedules, we would be delighted to spend our time with new animal companions. We offer a wide range of pet care services and are happy to adapt to your pet's individual routine and needs.
We look forward to meeting you and your beloved furry companion!
